I am a trilingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese) mental health professional, author, educator, and international advocate. With over a decade of experience at Tufts Medical Center in Boston—one of the nation’s leading academic medical institutions and the best teaching hospital in Boston—I have dedicated my career to improving mental health care and education, which is my passion.
During my time at Tufts Medical Center, I worked extensively in the Inpatient Psychiatry Locked Unit, where I provided care for patients with schizophrenia, chronic depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and neurodivergent conditions such as autism and ADHD. My expertise also spans across ICUs, Emergency Departments, Pediatrics, the Mother and Infant Unit, and Cardiac Care, allowing me to work with patients of all ages. I am highly skilled in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
As the International Director of Mental Health, I collaborate with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders across South, Central, and North America, the Caribbean, and Europe to develop initiatives aimed at reducing stigma, expanding access to mental health resources, and promoting culturally responsive care. I am particularly passionate about preventative mental health approaches, advocating for early intervention and education rather than waiting until individuals are in crisis. I also work to bridge the gap in mental health services, recognizing that in many rural and underserved urban areas, access to care remains limited or nonexistent.
My passion for mental health advocacy is deeply personal, rooted in early experiences volunteering for my father’s non-profit organization in Peru, which provided healthcare, food, and shelter to underserved communities. This foundation instilled in me a lifelong commitment to service and mental health awareness.
I am the international award-winning author of Blooming, a book dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and empowering individuals with knowledge, tools, and self-reflection exercises. I am also a recognized leader in trauma-informed education, having developed a mental health curriculum for middle school students that integrates social-emotional learning. In addition, I led the mindfulness enrichment program, which has benefited many students mentally, socially, cognitively, and physically, helping them become more self-aware and grounded in their emotions while developing healthier coping strategies.
My work has earned me numerous accolades, including the Mental Health Advocate of the Year Award, recognition from the Mayor of my city and the President of Massachusetts, the Top 100 Women Award granted by the Congress of the Republic of Peru, and the prestigious Doctor Honoris Causa awarded by the Congress of the Republic of Peru, as well as honors from other international organizations. My advocacy has led me to appear on multiple media platforms, where I continue to educate and raise awareness about mental health.
Currently, I am completing my specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with additional training in neuropsychology, health psychology, and trauma-focused interventions from Harvard Medical School. I also hold certifications from NASM in Behavior Change Specialization, Certified Wellness Coach (CWC), and Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), which provide me with a broader perspective on factors that influence mental health, habits, and ways to support individuals in fostering growth, healing, and transformation. My multicultural background as a Latina/Asian professional informs my inclusive, intersectional approach to therapy, ensuring that individuals from diverse backgrounds receive equitable, affirming, and neurodivergent-friendly care.
I remain dedicated to empowering individuals, families, and communities by advocating for worldwide systemic change, providing trauma-informed mental health education, and fostering open conversations around healing and resilience.
When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband and children at Barnes & Noble, enjoying family activities together with my family, sharing coffee and deep conversations with friends, reading, traveling, and exploring different cultures through food and traditions.
