Vanessa Cruz Weimann y Floreciendo
Te invito a disfrutar esta breve biografía, donde comparto mi pasión por la salud mental, la inspiración que me llevó a escribir mi libro Floreciendo y su impacto a nivel nacional e internacional.

What led to the creation of Blooming ?
Mental health is a deeply meaningful field to me. I have had the privilege of working closely as a Mental Health Counselor in Psychiatry with patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. Unfortunately, current global statistics show a significant increase in mental health crises, which is an indicator of the high toll of lives affected.
Mental health does not discriminate; it can affect anyone, and this reality led me to embark on extensive research; a journey I began during the challenging year of 2020, the heart of the pandemic.
In exploring the factors influencing our mental well-being, I discovered a seemingly simple yet overlooked aspect: our emotions. Many of us tend to suppress or neglect our emotions, allowing them to accumulate silently, unaware that they gradually poison our mental state. Over time, these suppressed emotions can lead us to a place we never imagined, a desolate and bewildering mental space, pushing us into crisis.
Blooming aims to guide you in embracing your emotions as part of your identity to achieve mental well-being. This life-changing guide serves as a companion, helping you navigate, identify, and understand the internal factors that have led you to where you are emotionally and mentally and, most importantly, how to move forward and emerge from that state with greater clarity and knowledge. This guide provides a ray of hope, offering practical tools, coping mechanisms, and insights to help you understand yourself better, flourish, thrive, and be prepared to face any adversity.
Let us all unite on this journey towards a brighter future, a society more aware of its emotions, while diminishing the stigma that overshadows humanity's mental health in these times.
About the Author
My name is Vanessa Cruz Weimann. I am a trilingual professional, fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. I am originally from Talara, Peru. I am a dedicated wife, loving mother of two wonderful children, author, community leader, healthcare professional, staunch advocate for mental health, educator, mental health coach. I am currently the International Director of Mental Health. This position provides me with the opportunity to collaborate with a wide network of stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders in my community, South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe to develop and implement initiatives aimed at improving mental health, reducing stigma, and ensuring equitable access to mental health resources.
My commitment and passion to make an impact in this world have taken me to different places and allowed me to meet inspiring leaders. My journey started in Peru at the age of five, helping in the non-profit organization- Optica Espiritual, founded by my father. In this organization, we assisted people and families who could not afford to see a doctor, have enough income to eat, dress or even a place to live. We were present in the most challenging situations for these families also visited them during holidays such as Christmas and New Year, bringing donations of clothing, gifts for children and groceries for families to have a nice dinner. Being present witnessing this real life experiences shaped my mind at an early age.
My journey in the United States started in 2007. Shortly after my arrival, recognizing the importance of English proficiency for personal growth and societal impact, I enrolled in the English as a Second Language Program. This period presented substantial challenges, including instances of bullying and significant lifestyle adjustments. Despite the difficulties, I remained resilient and committed to mastering English efficiently. To facilitate my language acquisition, I undertook rigorous study while working. Within a year, I advanced from Basic to Advanced English, achieving the highest honors with a 3.98 GPA upon graduating from the English as a Second Language Program. Then, I earned my associate degree in Health Sciences, being the top graduate of my class. Subsequently, I applied and entered one of the most prestigious universities, the University of Massachusetts Boston, where I obtained my degree in Health Sciences. At the same time, I attended training seminars at Harvard Medical School on topics related to neuroscience, nutrition, physical, mental, and emotional health. Currently, I am specializing in Clinical Mental Health and obtaining my certification in the concentration of managing thoughts, emotions, and behavior in mental health from Harvard Medical School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Merrimack College.
I have nearly a decade of experience at Tufts Medical Center, one of the most prestigious hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts, working in various positions such as administration, notary public, intensive care units, emergency departments, cardiology, oncology, infectious disease, maternity, pediatrics, operations department, and psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Empowered by improved language skills, I initiated my first project to advocate for immigrants facing language barriers. Recognizing the lack of available bilingual tutors, I established the first bilingual ESL Tutoring Center at North Shore Community College. Despite financial constraints, I offered assistance to students, aiding in their successful program completion. This endeavor marked the beginning of my commitment to community service, which continued to grow. In addition to my work at the ESL Tutoring Center, I dedicated my time to various organizations. I volunteered at My Brother's Table in Lynn, providing support to the homeless, particularly during colder days and holidays. Through Neighbor to Neighbor, I engaged in community outreach, educating residents on the importance of voting and civic participation. Furthermore, I contributed to community service efforts at Lynn Woods Reservation, participating in weekend clean-up activities. Additionally, I volunteered at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, assisting disabled patients and those without family support. These experiences solidified my dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others within my community, emphasizing the importance of education, civic engagement, and community service.
During my college years, I worked as an interpreter at US Customs and Border Protection, interacting with individuals from diverse global backgrounds and exposed to various languages. It was during this experience that I developed a fascination for my third language, Portuguese. Motivated by my desire to contribute to community work in Brazil, I enrolled in Portuguese classes. Upon mastering the language, I traveled to Brazil and dedicated my time to volunteering with children at the Pediatric Oncology Hospital.
I helped raise funds to create a better environment for students at a school in Peru. I participated every year in Washington, DC, marching for undocumented students to have access to affordable education through the Student Immigration Movement (SIM) and the Dream Act. I had the privilege of being invited to the Conference to support Immigration for undocumented students where former President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker. I presently hold the role of a panelist on the TV and radio program "Changing the World of People with Disabilities," where we engage in discussions on mental health and disability-related subjects with specialists from around the globe. I dedicate my time not only to volunteering, but also to actively contributing to an organization that I deeply respect for its commendable work with children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since 2013.
One of my recent achievements was writing and publishing my first book, titled "Blooming." My greatest aspiration for this book is to offer you a valuable yet simple resource that can help you both professionally and personally, just as it has helped me. As I continue to learn and grow in my understanding of mental health, I commit to sharing with you my insight, valuable information, and thoughts that can help you navigate your own path to mental health.
One of the many reasons why this book is very dear and special to me is because the proceeds will go to organizations that help patients in the field of mental health. There is much work to be done in psychiatric facilities. My book is for sale at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where all profits will go to its Psychiatry unit- Pratt 2. "Blooming" has made a significant difference, and as a result, my book signing at Fenway Park sold out. It is a dream come true as a Latina, woman, wife, mother of two incredible young children, student, healthcare worker, health educator and a staunch advocate for mental health and education.
I have had the opportunity to be interviewed by different media outlets talking about raising awareness on this issue and how to end this stigma as a society. For instance, El Mundo - La Hora del Café, Cuencavision, Changing the World for People with Disabilities, Latino Power TLC, Simply Miracles, Hablemos with the Univision New England Channel, D8A9 and by Tufts Medical Center, Boston for my excellence.
Due to my competence, advocacy, and professionalism, I have been awarded through the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Multicultural Society Distinction Award, the Student Government Association Award, and the Honors Student Council Representative Award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
In 2023, I was recognized by the mayor of my city, Jared Nicholson, and the President of the State of Massachusetts, Karen Spilka, for my leadership, courage, and impact in my city and the world. LULAC Evolution Boston for the gracious recognition of my contribution to society and for granting me the platform to empower an audience composed of exceptional, inspiring, and empowered leaders within our community, sharing insights on a subject that holds profound personal significance to me—Mental Health. The Dominican Republic for inviting me to their International Book Event and acknowledging my work as an author. It was truly an honor.
At the same time, I was the recipient of the Mental Health Advocate of the Year, which is an award that I held with so much gratitude. My most recent nomination is to be the Cultural Ambassador and Queen of the program hosted by Juan Cepeda on the television network, CuencaVision. I will be working on projects, doing community work as a community leader.
I am presently employed at an exceptional charter school, collaborating with highly skilled and compassionate educators deeply committed to our students. It is an honor for me to develop the Health Curriculum for middle school students, incorporating mental health components. I have the privilege of teaching this curriculum to nearly 500 intelligent, delightful, and kind students, from whom I gain valuable insights every day.
I take great delight in my family who are my everything. My husband, who is my best friend, my rock, amazing spouse, and devoted father providing unwavering support to each one of us at home. My children, Thais and Anthony who bring immense happiness into our lives through their engaging stories, and being there to witness their growth is an unparalleled joy. During my absence, you can often find me cherishing moments in nature with my husband and children or immersed in a good book at Barnes and Noble, sipping on a cup of coffee.
This is the beginning of my leadership as a Mental Health Professional for my Community in the United States and worldwide, for which I am connected with many national and international organizations in order to help many people that are getting affected daily by mental illness.

Recipient of the Top 100 Women Awards
Returning to my homeland after nearly a decade has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me. I want this post to be more than just a professional reflection; I want it to be personal, reaching out to anyone who might be losing faith in themselves, struggling with confidence, or considering giving up. It is okay to feel this way; I have been there many times, especially as a young immigrant.
I am from Talara, Peru, born into a humble yet profoundly loving and caring family. The true wealth of my life lies in the faith instilled in me by my parents during my upbringing.
Leaving my homeland at the age of 16 changed everything drastically. Being an immigrant presents immense challenges: a new language, culture, climate, routine, people - everything is different. Suddenly, my path seemed unclear, but I refused to stop dreaming. Despite having "nothing" materially, I was abundantly rich in the love of my parents and the strength of my faith.
There were days when I felt utterly lost, unsure of what to do, where to start, how to start, or where to go. But through prayer, I asked God for strength, guidance, and clarity while diligently pursuing my studies and working hard with integrity and ethics as my parents advised me every day. This advice was ingrained in my heart, leading me to meet inspirational leaders and take me to amazing places in life.
To anyone reading this, if you are feeling emotionally fragile, I understand because I have been there. But please, never lose sight of your spiritual strength; it will illuminate even the darkest days and fortify you when you feel weakest.
After almost a decade, I returned to my homeland as a wife, mother, trilingual mental health professional and activist, health educator, and author. I was invited to address a room full of remarkable leaders from Peru and around the world at the Congress of the Republic on a topic I am deeply passionate about - Mental Health and advocating for changes to be implemented, especially in the early stages of life. Mental Health shouldn't only be addressed in times of danger but at the earliest stages of our lives. I will share more about these projects as I go.
Additionally, I was nominated for the TOP 100 Women Awards by women from different parts of my country and the world. This experience allowed me to meet amazing women working for a better future and opened many doors to the changes I would love to see in our world. Simultaneously establish valuable connections and cultivate a strong network for future endeavors. I am completely inspired by every single project I was able to witness. I am proud to share that I was honored as one of the recipients!
To anyone feeling disheartened today, keep striving to become the person you aspire to be because the world needs you! Your story is the inspiration many are thirsty to hear tomorrow, and I can say that because I have experienced that with my current students and their testimonies of how I am impacting their lives and inspiring them to be better. That is what life is all about. I am far from perfection, but if I can impact at least one life and make a difference in them, this journey has been worthwhile.
Don't let one blurry chapter define your story. Remember to cherish the journey, not just the destination.
Do not lose your faith!
Be humble, kind and genuine.
Do not ever forget to be grateful for the good and the bad.
Embrace every single emotion. There is so much power in each one of them.
Do not stop dreaming; therefore, take breaks, but do not ever quit.
Never forget where you come from and never lose sight of where you want to go.
Transform your pain into Power!
Top 100 Women Awards 2024
I am honored to have been selected as a nominee for the prestigious Top 100 Women Awards 2024, alongside an impressive cohort of women from diverse backgrounds around the globe.
The forthcoming ceremony, set to take place in Lima, Peru, presents an exciting opportunity for me. In addition, I have been extended the privilege of addressing the esteemed members of the Congress of the Republic of Peru on a subject that holds great personal significance to me: Mental Health.
Furthermore, I am thrilled to present the Spanish version of my book, "Blooming," under the title "Floreciendo." This platform allows me to further amplify my advocacy efforts and contribute meaningfully to a cause that resonates deeply with me.
Mental Health Advocacy Award of The Year
Mental health is a deeply meaningful subject to me because I have had the privilege to work closely with patients and their families during their most challenging moments. Unfortunately, we as a society, are currently witnessing a significant increase in mental health crises, which is backed by alarming statistics indicating a high daily toll of lives affected.
Mental health does not discriminate; it can affect anyone, and this realization led me to embark on extensive research; a journey I began when I started working as a Mental Health Counselor and started writing during the challenging year of 2020, the heart of the pandemic.
Having closely observed and work with patients during my career at the hospital, I documented their experiences, both subjectively and objectively. This inspired me to transform my vision into reality with the creation of Blooming. This guide offers a clear and concise path to recognized, identify and understand our emotions in depth.
I recognized that during turbulent mental times, our capacity to absorb complex information diminishes, necessitating clarity and precision. This insight guided the writing of Blooming and contributed to its remarkable success in helping countless individuals and families in our community and in the world.
Blooming serves as a compassionate companion, assisting you in navigating, identifying, and understanding the internal factors that have led you to where you are and, most importantly, how to move forward.
I take immense pride in the positive impact this precious book has had—saving lives, boosting self-esteem, and providing guidance during challenging times. As part of my commitment to mental health advocacy, proceeds from "Blooming" are directed towards mental health organizations, ensuring that individuals facing these crises find warm, comforting spaces during their journey to recovery.
I am truly thankful to those who embraced Blooming and allowed it to become part of their journey, leading them to discover their true selves, understand and channel their emotions more deeply. Thank you for reaching out to me and expressing the impact of Blooming on your lives. It is very inspiring to read every single email I get.
Being the recipient of this powerful and impactful award is more than an honor. I hold immense respect and admiration for all the nominees who shared this beautiful evening with me. Thank you for the amazing and inspiring work you are doing in our community and in our world! Let's continue working together promoting mental health and dismantling societal stigmas. Together, we can create a more understanding and compassionate world!
As a closing request, I would like to ask each of you to embrace the role of ambassadors for kindness, love, respect, and inclusion. Let us work together to build a harmonious and safe community for ourselves and for our future generations.
With heartfelt gratitude,

I can't thank "BLOOMING" enough for its transformative impact on my life. The book's teachings on cultivating gratitude have been truly life-changing. As I delved into its pages, I embraced a whole new perspective, opening my eyes to the beauty of gratitude in the simplest moments. Now, during my runs in the park, I find myself deeply appreciating nature's wonders—the vibrant greens of trees, the sight of a family of ducks by the river, and the gentle breeze caressing my face. These moments fill me with immense thankfulness for the chance to be active and connect with the beauty of the outdoors. Moreover, "BLOOMING" also helped me realize the true value of positive connections with others. Interacting with colleagues, especially during tough times at work, has turned into moments of gratitude for the unwavering support and camaraderie we share. It's in these moments of unity that I've learned the significance of appreciating the people who uplift and stand by us. Plus, the book inspired me to consciously express my gratitude to others. So, for example, when a coworker went the extra mile to help me meet a deadline, I made it a point to thank them sincerely. The gesture brightened both of our days. I can't put into words how thankful I am to my friend for writing "BLOOMING" and equipping me with invaluable tools to find serenity in my everyday experiences. It has become a cherished guide on my journey towards a more present and fulfilling life.

Reading this book has given me a boost in my confidence for being able to read the entire book within a day. It is very helpful and engaging. Everyone could feel identify with it.”

Sometimes thinking about how to take care of our own mental health Can be overwhelming and there are so many answers online that it just ends up being frustrated. Blooming gave me all I needed to understand myself, know what I was doing well, and what I needed to work on. It’s not a cliché book, you learn. I loved reading it, it’s the type of book you can always go back to and read again.

I’ve known Vanessa and her husband Cleiton for many years now, and consider them family. When I purchased her very first book “Blooming”, I was very impressed with her documentation of her experience working in the medical field with patients suffering from emotional trauma and disorders. Vanessa never hesitated in choosing this field, always giving of herself beyond what’s required from the hospital, and it’s a true reflection of her character and what she thinks of her patients addressed in her very first book. I look forward to her very next book, regardless of what the subject might be, and I highly recommend others to read it as well, for the insight and passion Vanessa took to enlightened us all.
